The Story Behind the Story

After a year living in my camper named "The Betty", I've decided to take those adventures and make it a lifestyle.   From the first day of the journey to the launch of my business I've kept a journal here at "Miles in the Mirror".

Putting It All Together

Going Off the Grid - Summer Preparations

About a week ago I moved off my lot at Tiger Run Resort.  It took a couple of days to pack up the camp site and get The Betty ready for the road again.  I figured by the end of April I would have descent weather to start my summer preparations.  That was definitely not the case.  The last few days I was on the lot the temperatures dropped and the snow was falling again.  Not any huge accumulations but enough to be nuisance.  I ended up setting up a space heater under the RV while I was changing the oil and doing some other mechanical things  - fun fact - The Betty takes 15 quarts of oil and a filter the size of a toaster.

Moving day.
All in all, pulling off of the site went without a hitch.  For the time being I have moved my caravan of toys to the free lot just outside of Breckenridge.  I was still waiting for some parts to show up for the bikes and RV, so I decided to hang out while I tied some loose ends.
I finally made the tough decision to part ways with my 4Runner.  I just had too many thing to haul around and it didn't make sense to pay to store it.  I put it up on craigslist and was sold within a couple days.  It went to a good home though; a recent college grad that had always dreamed of owning a 4Runner.  Now I'm down to a 30 foot grocery getter.

Now they say its bad luck not to name a boat(some of my friends will remember the infamous "Impulsive Buyer"), so I figured the same should go for RVs.  As most of you know she has already earned the name "The Betty".  Now I wanted a "figurehead" or an emblem of sorts to really bring it home.  I had the idea of a WWII theme pin up girl posing with bikes and skis.  So I tracked down a local artist at a tattoo shop in Breck and told her my idea. My only request was that the bike and skis are my actual bike and skis.  The rest I left up to her.  She did an amazing job, doing the whole piece in water color.  It took about 2 months from sketch to vinyl but it was well worth the wait.

Are you going to make an east coast run this summer? If so we should meet up at Killington or Highland Bike Parks

Great site, it was good to talk with you at the Shop, hope that's the only cough Betty gets. Your schedule looks like you're heading to Stevens pass, I was over there a couple weeks ago and Hi-way 2 was closed west of Leavenworth due to fires. ended up going around on a detour to the north through Plain (Plane?) WA. you might check ahead to be sure there isn't an issue with Stevens, at that time it was clear.
